The Technical Director leads technical strategy, development, execution and innovation across accounts for the Bucharest office. This role works in collaboration with Creative, Business Development, and Production leadership to deliver robust, best-in-class digital experiences. You must have an instinctive and profound understanding of relevant technologies, and a pragmatic, hands-on approach to problem solving.
The Technology Director provides guidance and growth opportunities for the team, and is an advocate for the Technology Department within R/GA and the industry at large.
Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
- Evaluate client briefs and work with Creative on pitches and proposals that both meet consumer and client expectations, but also have a clear path for successful execution within given constraints
- Architect with other senior developers the applications, given existing environmental constraints, and including any combination of technologies from front-end web and devices, services and database. Document proposed architectures for discussion with client.
- Manage day to day development on said architectures, cyclically revising solutions, negotiating with Creative, Production and Interaction Design teams, and guiding overall development progress towards successful deliverables. -Help teams avoid pitfalls of inexperience such as unrealistic promises, excessive focus on perfection at the expense of "good enough", inability to scale application up with load, and lack of accounting for unexpected or unknown setbacks.
- Ongoing management of live systems, in collaboration with client, client customer service, Quality Assurance resources, as well as production, creative and interaction design groups internally. That includes answering emails and delegating emergency work to developers off hours and weekends.
- Act as a senior level counterpart to client leadership, providing technical/creative strategic direction to the client. Digital strategy is increasingly dependent on technical expertise and experience, and the client will look to you to form brand and product strategies.
Cerinte:
- Proven history of technology management experience working on large digital applications - Experience with various projects types, including web, mobile, video, retail, brand, and strategic consulting - Experience in managing teams of at least 10 people - Hands-on knowledge of key programming languages, such as Java, PHP, ActionScript, Javascript, Objective-C/Cocoa, and Ruby on Rails
- System architecture experience, including Cloud services, CDN, asynchronous message queue systems, clustered server environments.
- Proven ability to combine technologies in novel ways
- Excellent leadership and communication skills
- Deep understanding of technical project management and work flow
